Breeding Philosophy
I strongly believe in performance breedings (both parents have passed the VGP test) and have set that standard for most breedings that take place in my kennel. In some situations there may be an exception but most always with a male that I know well and have a good understanding of. I believe that this helps in the evaluation of the Sire and Dam, as is takes a sound and stable dog to be able to withstand and successfully complete the tasks required to complete the VGP.
Testing my females through the VGP gives them more time to develop and gives me more time and experiences with them to assist if fully evaluating what traits I want to look for in a stud.
All my females and the males that I use as studs are HD-free.
All my females and the males that I use as studs are free of von Willebrands disease, either by DNA testing or by lineage from their parents.
I believe the Deutsch Drahthaar should possess strong natural abilities, intelligence, be mentally stable and trainable, and have sound structure. They should not be aggressive, shy, or uncooperative.
My breeding goal is to develop a line of drahthaars that exhibit a strong hunting desire to locate and retrieve game in the field and in the water.
I strive for consistency in temperament, coat, and conformation with each breeding. I want to produce drahthaars that have the personality and temperament to live as a family member, which includes the ability to get along with small children.
All my females are what I consider to be "people" oriented drahthaars with a strong desire to please. I do not breed to aggressive males nor do I keep aggressive females for breeding.
I choose to breed to a male because he possesses the natural abilities (strong pointing and tracking instincts and an excellent nose), personality, and coat type that compliment each of my females and not simply because he has impressive test scores. I never breed to a male just because of the close proximity to where I live.
My drahthaars are registered with the VDD in Germany, and I conduct all breeding under the rules and regulations of the VDD.
